An Ever-Present Help

An Ever-Present Help

“God is the Father who is full of mercy and all comfort. He comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us.” -2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NCV)

Life is full of unforeseen circumstances that can bog us down and depress us. Sometimes these circumstances come about because of the great enemy of mankind, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 (NIV)

While he may not be doing these things in the literal sense, he will cause hurt to happen in whatever way he can. He devises ways to kill your peace and destroys your joy.

When you find yourself in the midst of trials and burdening situations, I am waiting to help you. When the current events of this world rob you of joy and peace, I am here to renew you. When your life has been turned upside down by tragedy, I want to provide you comfort.

I am waiting for you to turn to me and seek my face. When you do this your focus will shift, the darkness will lift and the light will begin to shine again.

I have always been there for you. I am your ever-present help in time of need.

3 for 3

1 . Name two ways in which other people comforted you. Explain whether you believe God was active through this assistance.

2. Read Psalm 46.  Think about the impact of this passage on your views of current events in the world. Consider the assurance God gives in His offer to be our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in times of trouble.

3. There’s just a whole lot of bad stuff going on in this world, and it can make it awful hard to believe in a good God, a God of love and mercy. It can be really hard to see God at work during these times. Read this Q&A to get a better understanding of suffering and evil in this world.
