Forgive each other
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:17-18 (NIV)
Billions of people live in this world. Some we encounter on a daily basis, some we pass by on the highways, and some we’ve allowed into our hearts. God has created us to form relationships and build friendships with others, but not every person we meet or know will have our best interests in mind. God is the only one who holds this standard for us. Because of this, and because no one is perfect, people are going to wrong us and let us down.
Sometimes we experience heartache and suffering because of others. However, in order to have happiness in the present, we need to lay to rest what has happened in the past. We need to let go of the things we cannot change, and sometimes that means letting go of the people we cannot change. When we let go of what has happened, we make way for what can happen.
Though it isn’t easy, God tells us that vengeance is His and that we should treat those who have hurt us just as we would our friends. Though we continue to fail Him, God, in His holiness, forgives us, showing us the perfect example of grace. He is the ultimate friend and ideal advisor who knows we will sin today and again tomorrow, but loves us despite our failings.
