God sees our tears
The Psalms were written when “sowing” and “reaping” were common terms for planting seeds in the spring and seeing a harvest in the fall. Still, even in a technological age, the promise of this Bible verse remains relevant. Even when we go through grief and heartache, God sees our tears. He knows we sometimes have to endure suffering. Yet what may seem like a tragedy can merely be the beginning of a brighter future.
While the author of Psalm 126 isn’t known, one thing is apparent. Whoever wrote these words did so after Israel regained its freedom after 70 years of being held captive in Babylon. Now, when Babylon first invaded Jerusalem and took its king captive, you would have scoffed and laughed at anyone who promised better days were coming. Yet they were. The people could only see it when they looked back. That is likely to be true in your life.
God used this period of captivity to teach the Israelites they had gotten their priorities mixed up. He can do the same for you. If you are struggling to pay off a mountain of debt, think of the positives, If someone had showed up to magically pay off your bills, it’s likely you would have gone out and run up debts all over again. Hopefully, this lesson will hurt so bad you will never want to repeat your mistake.
Maybe you have lost a parent, a brother or a sister, or a close friend. Nothing will ease the sting of grief right away. But as time passes, you may find yourself becoming a more caring person. When someone else grieves, you may be much more understanding than in the past. You may find yourself more able to offer others comfort. If you took the person who died for granted, you may find yourself spending more time with friends or loved ones who are still alive.
If you’re going through a tough time, don’t waste this opportunity. Pray and ask God if there is anything you can learn from this situation.
