I’ve Got Your Back

All you have hidden. I see. – God

I’ve Got Your Back

I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. – Psalm 139:11-12 (NLT)

Everyone has secrets. Things they wouldn’t tell their own mother or even their best friend. Things they’d rather just keep hidden, or to forget all about. Maybe it’s a mistake, maybe it’s an embarrassing moment, maybe it’s a weakness… it doesn’t matter you’ve buried it and you hope that it doesn’t ever come to light.

Darkness, or sin entered the world when Satan deceived Adam and Eve in the garden. Since that time it’s been in the soul of every living person. (Psalm 14:3) Everyone struggles with right and wrong. And sometimes the darkness, the “wrongness”- the sin wins. And then you want to hide, to cover it up, to forget about it, to keep it secret.

Adam and Eve tried to hide from me, “Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid.” (Genesis 3:9-10 NLT)

It doesn’t work to hide from me or to keep secret from me. As the writer of the Psalms said, “darkness is as light to you.” The good news is that even though I know those dark and secret things about you—I love you.

I am also willing to forgive you for all your wrongdoing, all your sin. All you have to do is ask. When you ask me to I will wipe the slate clean, taking that darkness and erasing it. Don’t try to hide from me. Instead come to me, ask for my forgiveness and then know that “I’ve got your back” no matter what.

Catalyst for Spiritual Growth

1 – Read Genesis chapter 3.

2- A good prayer for you this week — “Father God, I know I have done what is wrong. I know I have sinned. I don’t want to try to hide it any more. Forgive me. Help me to learn a better way to live. Help me to walk closely with you.”

3 – Jesus told his followers that “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20. Do you believe this? If not think about the reasons why not, ask yourself if this could be because you have some dark secret or sin that preventing you from grasping this truth. If that is the case, ask for God’s forgiveness and help.
