Let’s Make A New Start
Happy New Year!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
As the year comes to a close, we look back on the months that have passed and reflect on all that has transpired. We smile at the thought of happy times we’ve shared with loved ones, and we wish some things could have turned out differently. As one year ends, we vow to make the next one better, led by resolutions for certain changes we want for our lives. We know that a new year means a chance to start over, and the best way to make this happen is by making a new start with God.
Ever been frustrated when things don’t go the way you’ve planned? We know there is a God who is in control, but circumstances can certainly steal our joy. As we make adjustments and try to summon the willpower to follow through with our goals, we must remember the source of our power. We serve the almighty God, yet we neglect to ask Him for help.
When we focus on yesterday, it’s easy to become depressed about things that haven’t gone the way we wanted. We make promises to change ourselves—in hopes that we improve our futures, especially as we welcome a new year. We feel it is the perfect time to start over and start new. And God tells us that it is.
Every day when we wake up, we have a chance to start over. God gives us the opportunity; we just have to invite Him to be a part of it. We have the chance to start new, to create new, to love new, to be new. We need to live seeking the new, with the knowledge that something great is waiting for us. Find happiness this year with a fresh start and a new beginning. And know God is waiting to help make it happen.
List three things you want to be different in 2014. Something you need to let go of, a habit that you need to break, a relationship you need to fix, a daily exercise you need to start, a project you need to finish. Don’t be overwhelmed, but instead ask God to help you with each one. He wants to fill our lives with happiness and abundance. Read John 10:10 and Philippians 4:13 and know that anything you set your mind to, God will help you fulfill. Make a promise to yourself and make a promise with God. Remember, He never breaks His!
