Open Up Your Heart to Show Love Today [3 Ways to Start]
“Stay on good terms with each other, held together by love. Be ready with a meal or a bed when it’s needed. Why, some have extended hospitality to angels without ever knowing it! Regard prisoners as if you were in prison with them. Look on victims of abuse as if what happened to them had happened to you.” Hebrews 13:1-3 (MSG)
A brothel, in one of India’s red light districts may seem like a strange place to hold a church service, but that’s just what a man named K.K. Devaraj started doing 20 years ago. Taking the good news of Jesus into a place of deep spiritual darkness. Through Project Rescue, Devaraj and his colleagues, have impacted the lives of thousands of women and child who have been trapped in sexual slavery.
This is what I meant when I called you to go and be loving. To go where the needs are, to seek the lost, to spend time with the lonely, to love the unlovable.
Sure, it’s easy to love your friends and family, but I want you to think beyond those who are easiest to love. I also want you to love the prisoner, the prostitute, the homeless, the addict, the refugee, the outcast.
It’s a tall order and you may not know where to start. So, I will give you 3 steps you can take right now to begin loving those who are hard to love.
1 — Pray – Ask me to help you. This is the type of prayer I enjoy answering, when you pray for the strength, boldness and opportunity to do what I have asked you to do.
2 — Read—Get to know about the life of Jesus and what My Word, says about loving others. Start with the gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
3 — Spend—Your time, treasure (e.g. money) or talent loving others. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, spend time with someone at a nursing home, give to a ministry like Project Rescue, Forever Changed International or Samaritan’s Purse, go on a mission trip, DO something. There are many ways for you to be involved. And if you are praying doors will begin to open.
Love is something everyone needs, from the smallest child to the oldest man or women. Just because a person seems hard to reach does not mean they don’t need love. Just the opposite! They are the ones who need love the most. Open up your heart to them, show them love today and you’ll begin to change the world.
