Sharing My Blessings
Jesus said: Don’t judge others, and God won’t judge you. Don’t be hard on others, and God won’t be hard on you. Forgive others, and God will forgive you. If you give to others, you will be given a full amount in return. It will be packed down, shaken together, and spilling over into your lap. The way you treat others is the way you will be treated. – Luke 6:37-38 (CEV)
The way you live makes a difference. Be judgmental towards others and criticize them as you point out their faults and second-guess their decisions; they are likely to treat you the same way. Be forgiving of others’ mistakes and when you mess up, they are likely to forgive you, too. Give to others in their time of need and when you find yourself in a time of need, they can be the very ones who offer help.
The world teaches a much different lesson. Many people say you must take care of yourself first. Cut every corner, pile up a fortune for yourself, look for personal glory, and don’t get mad at someone—get even. A self-centered way of living sounds good, until you come to the end of life and find yourself a very lonely person.
It’s the difference between an open hand and a clenched fist. Generosity starts with a thankful heart.
Thankfulness opens you to all kinds of possibilities. When you aren’t worried about tomorrow, you are freer to give to others today, whether that is money, time or your talents. When you are thankful for My blessings, you want others to enjoy them, too. Sharing is always more fun than hoarding everything for yourself.
