The Importance of Children
What importance do children play in your life? And not just your own children but ALL children. See children are important to me, and they should be important to you too.
One of the saddest things is when people keep children from me. This even happened to My Son, Jesus. “One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.” (Matthew 19:13 NIV)
“Go away… don’t bother Jesus with your screaming, squirming kids,” is what they seemed to say, “He has more important things to do.”
It’s true that large crowds had been following Jesus. People where coming from far and wide to hear this new teacher and to have their sicknesses healed. So maybe the disciples saw perfectly healthy children and thought it was better to let the sick and needy come to Jesus. Whatever their reasons, Jesus quickly rebuked them:
“But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.” (Matthew 19:14-15 NIV)
Jesus showed that the children were just as important as the others.
Bring your children to me, just as those parents brought their children to Jesus. Be diligent about how you raise them. Teach them to love others, to be forgiving and kind. Be a model for them, teaching them to seek me through your example. Pray for your children. And then pray for them some more. And help the other children in your life too. Especially reach out and help those children who have no one else to love them and protect them—foster kids, orphans and others. Be my light to all the children of this world.
Catalyst for Spiritual Growth
1 – This week pray about your ability to give to an organization that helps children who are in need. Watch Erick’s Story and then pray about giving to Royal Family Kid’s Camp to help Foster Children or read about Nayeli and then pray about sponsoring an orphan.
2 – If you have children watch What Is The Gospel? Jesus is the Good News with them.
3 – Pray for your children today, “Father God, help me to be a good _____________ (father, mother, grandparent, aunt, uncle…) to the children in my life. I pray that these children will grow in the grace and knowledge of your great love for us. I pray that they will find a personal relationship with you. I pray that they will follow you all the days of their lives. In your name. Amen.”
