Where are you going?

Where are you going?

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14 NIV

We’re all headed somewhere. In the small picture, we’re headed to work or school or to meet a friend for coffee. But the big picture shows the more rugged commute: a journey we all take, a trek to figure out who we are and why we’re here. We’re all searching, trying to find something to fill the void we feel inside. We want the journey to lead us to happiness, but we know deep down that we will never be fully satisfied with the things life has to offer. Because the truth is, it’s not the things we buy or the moments we live that make us happy, it is God. You may know where you’re going right now, but do you know, when this life ends, where you’re headed?

Think of all the time that has passed, the years that have flown by so quickly. The birthdays you’ve celebrated, the achievements you’ve realized, the disappointments you’ve faced and the adversities you’ve overcome. Think of where you are now and how you got here. You’ve paved roads, cleared paths, crossed mountains and explored uncharted waters—all to get to this point.

Are you happy with where you are? Are you satisfied that this is all there is to life—the waking up, driving to work, punching in hours, and going home to do it all over the next day? Are you content with the monotonous everyday life that you live? Do you know how it all ends? Do you know what would happen if your road were to end abruptly, right now? Where would you go then?

God compares our life to the morning fog, here a little while and then gone without notice. The time spent on this earth is nothing compared with eternity. This world has billions of people and each and every soul will stand before God someday. When God looks over your life, will He welcome you into His Kingdom? Where are you going?

We categorize the biggest things in our life to be work and bills and relationships, but God does not agree. He tells us that influencing and helping change people’s lives is most important. We do this by telling others of God’s love and mercy. Make an impact today. Share a verse with your friends, tell a stranger God loves them, invite someone to church, set an example by living your life the way God has commanded you. Help someone find their way by leading them to God.
