Who Are You?
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. – Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)
You are a human being, but many people want to treat you like a human doing. They judge based on what you do, not who you are. This is backwards from the way I see things. I am much more interested in who you are. Others may judge actions, regardless of motivations. They do not know the heart of a person. They do not know their struggles, or their victories. They have turned a relationship with me into a religion of do’s and do not’s.
I know your heart. And I am much more interested in our relationship than a human create list of do’s and do not’s.
When you come to me, to walk with me, to be in relationship with me several things happen to change who you are. First you become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17.) You also become a child of God (John 1:12), a joint heir with my Son (Romans 8:17). You become a temple for my Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19.) I will come and dwell within your spirit so that you will have constant access to me (Ephesians 2:18.)
Because my Spirit is in you, things will begin to change. You will be able to bear my fruit. “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (Galatians 5:22-23)
If you’re being changes in this way, then your actions will begin to change too. But don’t focus on that! Keep your focus on me. When you do you will become a partner with me (2 Corinthians 6:1.) A living stone (1 Peter 2:5), part of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27), you will have a part in what I am building for eternity.
“For you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9 NLT)
This is who you are!
