I Will Direct Your Steps
When people’s steps follow the Lord, God is pleased with their ways. If they stumble, they will not fall, because the Lord holds their hand. — Psalm 37:23-24 (NCV)
Life is tough. It can deliver numerous surprises, unexpected setbacks, and heartaches, and be full of uncertainty. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to turn. That’s why it’s so good to know that I am there, no matter what happens. It may help you to know that David, a king in ancient Israel, wrote Psalm 37 near the end of his life. He had been through considerable trouble, including the country’s first king, Saul, trying to kill him. Yet David had seen Me come through every time.
No one would have blamed David for sinking into depression. That’s been a common problem all throughout history. People like presidents John Adam, Abraham Lincoln and Calvin Coolidge struggled with it. So did famous authors Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway and Agatha Christie. And actors Alan Alda, Ashley Judd and Harrison Ford.
Life can be so challenging it sends you into a downward spiral. You can inherit genetic weaknesses, suffer from physical disabilities, or lose a loved one and hurt so bad it’s hard to get out of bed in the morning. I’m not saying overcoming such problems is as easy as snapping your fingers. But the obstacles you face will require someone greater than yourself to overcome them. If you follow David’s example and turn to Me for help, you can experience the joy of rising back up when you stumble.
