Your Neighbor Needs You
Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” – Mark 12:29-31 (NLT)
Isn’t it interesting that My Son put loving your neighbor on the same level as loving Me? It isn’t as difficult as people often make it. When Jesus told the story about the Good Samaritan who helped a robbery victim while others walked by, He made it obvious that our neighbor is anyone who needs help.
Is there anyone around you who could use a helping hand? Do you know an elderly widow who struggles to keep her yard mowed or her leaves raked? What about the child whose father no longer lives in the home and could use a big brother or big sister to fill that gap? Or the single mother who works two jobs and never knows how she’ll make it until the end of the week?
You live in a very busy world. There are so many things to do, places to go, programs to watch, events to attend, and meetings to make, and only so much time to spend. Without an intentional plan, helping your neighbor can fall to the bottom of your list. But love makes the time. Try it and you may find helping your neighbor is the most enjoyable activity of the day.
