You’re Not Alone. -God
“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5 ESV)
After thousands of years of recorded history, human nature remains the same. No matter what the era, people worry about money and the things it can buy. Yet one of the richest men in American history, John D. Rockefeller, once said, “If your only goal is to become rich, you will never achieve it.” Another wise man wrote, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith.” (1 Timothy 6:10, ESV).
When Jesus walked on this earth, he advised people to avoid chasing after money. He said that if you seek the Kingdom of God first, his heavenly father will give you everything you need. On one occasion, Jesus told a large crowd, “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you” (John 6:27, NIV).
Those were powerful words. Instead of striving for more and staying up late to plan more ways they could get rich, Jesus was telling them to relax. There was something worth more than money—his father’s guidance and love.
So, what about your life? Do you know “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding” (Philippians 4:7, NIV)? When you are having a tough time, do you stop to pray? The next time you’re looking for help, it will be worth remembering the promise God made in the Bible to never leave you or turn his back on you.
What’s more, God didn’t leave you alone to figure everything out. He gave you family and friends to offer comfort, advice and feedback. How much does it mean to have family or buddies who are there when you get sick or are having a hard time? Or who are there to celebrate when you get a promotion or win a prize?
It may take a little more effort, but when you think about it, you can see God all around you. That’s how you can know his promise in Hebrews 13:5 is true.
