GIVE IT ALL TO HIM.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 5:33 (NLT)

Every morning at work I’d see a look of sadness and fatigue in her eyes. She’d walk into the office unfocused, almost jolted to reality by my “good morning” greeting.

Although for a long time I didn’t think it was really my business to pry into her personal life, one morning I finally asked. “Sandra, you seem really tired . . . and a little sad. Is everything okay?”

Tears filled her eyes, and as if she finally had permission to share about her problems, she blurted out the whole story.

The financial strains on her family were getting the best of her. Bills were piling up, creditors calling, and they’d just told their son he would have to take a semester off college. My heart went out to this woman who seemed to be bearing the emotional weight of her burdens alone.

“It’s making me sick,” she whispered.

Financial stress can make you physically ill. I know, I’ve been there. It wears you down, little by little, affecting your sleep, health, attitude, and even your relationship with God.

Throughout various seasons of my life, the Lord has given me opportunity to become totally dependent on Him for our finances. A few years ago, my husband went twelve months without a paycheck. We’ve endured a lawsuit, and we’ve put two kids through college. During these challenging days, I discovered that handling financial stress can be summed up in three steps:

  • Glorify God.

  • Keep working hard.

  • Give it all to Him.

In other words, live each day for your Savior!

Honor Him with your attitude and actions, and serve others even if you’re hurting. Put in full days of labor whether you’re employed or not. And then . . . consciously and purposefully trust God to provide.

He loves you, He cares, and He’ll never let you down!

THINK ABOUT IT…

  • What does this devotional reveal to me about myself?

  • Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

  • What is my prayer for today?
