COMING BACK FROM YOUR OWN JOURNEY OF DESPAIR.

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

My son and his wife thought they had their future all mapped out. They had prayed fervently, planned carefully, and received mature advice. As the pieces of the puzzle began to come together, they announced to family and friends the new venture awaiting them thousands of miles from home.

Their dream was becoming reality.

They started to pack their apartment and put in preliminary notices at their jobs. They watched their friends lament over their upcoming move.

And then it all fell apart.

Not only was the dream on indefinite hold, but somehow they had to backtrack and put the pieces of their current lives back together. At first, they were just sad, but then bitterness began to creep into their hearts.

They questioned God’s interest in their plans.

Slowly, my husband and I saw them begin to come back. It took time, but their laughter returned. They focused on a favorite mutual hobby and booked flights for a weekend getaway.

Most significant, the love of Christ once again radiated from their lives.

It’s not always easy to climb out of a hole of despair we’ve dug for ourselves. But for my son and his wife, it was possible because ultimately they believe in the goodness of God. It’s that simple, and at the same time, it’s that intense.

In Romans 8:31, Paul boldly proclaims, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

If you have trusted Christ for your salvation, you can have this same confidence! God sent Jesus to provide all you need in this life here on earth. Believe He loves you!

Memorize those ten words of Romans 8:31: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Tape them on your mirror. Make them your screensaver. Whatever it takes to remember them daily.

Let the Word of God bring you back from your own journey of despair.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” Romans 8:28 (NIV)
